Upper Mustang Trek is one of the most sought after treks in Mustang region. The Holy Damodar Kunda Lake is located in the rain shadow area to the north-east of Mustang at an altitude of 4890 meters. Great ceremony is organized each year in the full moon of August during which Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims from far and wide visit this exquisite lake with great enthusiasm. Damodar Kunda is located close to Tibetan border on restricted Upper Mustang.
Along with a religious significance, the area is equally fascinating from nature viewing perspective. It allows great views of Damodar Himal and Tibetan plateau towards north while we can view Annapurna Mountain Range to the south. Muktinath Peak (6,706m), Bhrikuti Peak (6,364m) and other 65 peaks can be viewed from this area. Although August is the best month to visit Damodar, you can always visit Damodar Lake during April to September.
Visit to Lo Manthang is another highlight of this trek. Known as ‘The Last Forbidden Kingdom’, Lo Manthang is hidden in the rain shadow of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs. Lo Manthang was opened for trekkers only since 1992. A fortified city of Lo Manthang was once an independent kingdom before being annexed into Mustang. It is among few remaining places where Ancient Tibetan Buddhism is still in practice.
We organize 22days Lomanthang and Damodar Kunda trekking itinerary. Enrich your life with this spiritual awakening trek.
