Jomsom Muktinath trekking route covers the part of Annapurna Circuit, located to the north of Pokhara, this trek is also known as Lower Mustang Trek. You will be taken in an incredible adventure where you will enjoy incredible views of Annapurna I, Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Fishtail, Himchuli and other peaks and Himalayan panorama. Explore the villages of mixed ethnics people and learn the culture of Brahmin, Chhetris, Magar, Gurung and Thakali ethnics in a single trip. Walk through world’s deepest Kali Gandaki Gorge that exists in between Mountain giants of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna and reaches Muktinath temple, the abode of Lord of salvation.

Both Hindus and Buddhists make a regular pilgrimage to Muktinath temple. Kali Gandaki River is rich in ammonites (shaligram) which is worshipped by Hindus as a manifestation of Lord Vishnu, the guardian god of all Hindus. The terrain ranges from subtropical forest to mountain desert area and thus it is rich in biodiversity. Jomsom is the gateway to forbidden kingdom of LoManthang.

Jomsom Muktinath trekking itinerary continues for just 13 days. Since Jomsom lies in the rain shadow of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountains, this trek is possible even in rainy season. Anybody with normal physical fitness can join JomsomMuktinath trek. Visit primeval monasteries and observe the ancient culture and traditions. After taking flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, we will drive to Nayapul which marks the start of MuktinathJomsom Trek. We will enjoy a dip in natural hot spring of Tatopani and walk through highland villages of Ghasa toMarpha which is famous for its apple production. Moving further through Kagbeni, we will reach Muktinath which is the ultimate destination of this trek.

Detail Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300 m/ 4265 ft)

    Our representative will be there to welcome you at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. You will find him waiting for you at the exit of arrival hall with a placard was written Alaya Holidays. He will then escort you to the Hotel. Once you get refreshed, you will get brief information about your itinerary. Enjoy cultural dinner with cultural dance at a typical Nepali restaurant.

  • Day 2

    Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour

    On this day you will be taken to observe the medieval city Kathmandu with our tour guide. Out of 10 UNESCO sites in Nepal, 7 lie in Kathmandu Valley while 4 of these sites exist in Kathmandu. You will visit Nepal’s largest Buddhist shrine at Bouddhanath, Holy Temple of Hindus Pashupatinath, 2500 years old Buddhist shrine of Swayambhunath and the ancient Royal Palace at Kathmandu Durbar Square. You will also get time for your trek preparation and shopping in the afternoon.

  • Day 3

    Day 3: Flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara (823 m/ 2700 ft), Trek to Tikhedhunga (1,552 m/ 5091 ft) 4-5 hrs

    We will catch an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara. And while you are on the flight you can also get better views of mountains and greenery of the forest. We will also enjoy the spectacular views of Dhaulagiri Mountain, Manaslu Mountain, Fishtail Mountain, and Annapurna Mountain Range. Pokhara, the city of Lakes, is the second largest city after Kathmandu in Nepal. We will drive along Lumle village with a beautiful view of Annapurna Mountain at the background. In about 40 minutes, we will reach Nayapul, the starting point of Jomsom Muktinath Trek. Moving along the northern edge of Bhurungdi River and climbing uphill via subtropical forest and crossing Modi River over a suspension bridge, we will arrive at Tikhedhunga village where we will stay overnight.

  • Day 4

    Day 4: Trek from Tikhedhunda to Ghorepani (2,750 m/ 9022 ft) 7 hrs

    Leaving Tikhedhunga, we will lower down and reach Bhurungdi River. Once we cross this river, we will follow the ascending trail to Ulleri village. Following a rather challenging trail through escalating stone staircases, we will reach Ghorepani. Ghorepani means Ghora for horse and Pani for water which was once an important stop point for travelers who traveled on horse. And stay overnight in Ghorepani.

  • Day 5

    Day 5: Ghorepani to Tatopani (1,190 m/ 3904 ft) 6 hrs

    After waking up at 4 am in the morning, we will begin climbing for about an hour to reach Poon hill, which is one of the best destinations of Annapurna region for sunrise view. The hill was named after Pun ethnics who have been living in that village. Along with sunrise, Nilgiri, Tukuche, Annapurna Mountain Range and other mountain peaks are also seen. On our way down from Poon hill, we will return back to a hotel in Ghorepani for our breakfast. From Ghorepani, we will be taking sharp descent through the large village of Shikha to Ghara Village. Crossing the river over suspension bridge, we will climb to Tatopani, a hot springs area and stay overnight.

  • Day 6

    Day 6: Trek from Tatopani to Ghasa (2,110 m/ 6922 ft) 5 hrs

    After an early morning breakfast, we will follow the trail that stretches along Kali Gandaki River that flows through the gorge between Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountains. We will reach pretty small village of Dana in couple of hours. Walking past Dana, we will arrive at Rukse Chhahara, a wonderful waterfall. Moving further through Kopchepani, we will climb uphill to Ghasa where we can find pretty village of Thakali ethnics. Ghasa is a great village to enjoy bird watching. Stay overnight in Ghasa.

  • Day 7

    Day 7: Ghasa to Marpha (2,680 m/ 8792 ft) 4 hrs

    The trail escalates uphill via forest to Lete River. Moving further, we will reach the highland village of Lete. Walking along the eastern edge of Kali Gandaki River, we will arrive at Larjung Village. Almost an hour of walk from Larjung takes us to the tiny village of Tukuche, which is located at 2590m altitude. Walking along apple farm, we will reach Marpha where we will stay overnight.

  • Day 8

    Day 8: Marpha to Kagbeni (2,810 m/ 92198 ft) 5 hrs

    Marpha is known as apple capital of Nepal. Apple brandy from Marpha is much popular among trekkers. We will then walk along the valley to the top of small ridge. Lowering down from the ridge, we will reach Jomsom Village. We will cross Pang River and arrive at Ekle Bhatti. Previously, there used to be only one teahouse from which the place gained its name as Ekle Bhatti (Ekle= Alone, Bhatti= Teahouse). We will take an hour walk from Ekle Bhatti to Kagbeni, which is located at the edge of two rivers. Kagbeni is the entry point for Upper Mustang. And stay overnight at Kagbeni.

  • Day 9

    Day 9: Kagbeni to Muktinath (3,710 m/ 12171 ft) 6 hrs

    Moving further from Kagbeni requires special trekking permit. Once the officials check our special trek permit, we will walk upstream and reach at the conjunction where the trails we take meet along another trail that continues to Khingar. The trail escalates further through a dusty area to Jharkot Village. We will continue walking until we reach Muktinath where we will stay overnight.

  • Day 10

    Day 10: Muktinath to Jomsom (2,715 m/ 8907 ft) 6 hrs

    The holy temple of Muktinath is hold sacred by both Hindu and Buddhist. Muktinath means the Lord of Salvation. There exist 108 water taps in Muktinath. We can also visit the temple of eternal flame which is known as Jwala Mai temple. There is also a Vishnu Temple in the premises Muktinath temple. Descending to Kali Gandaki River, we will walk through Kagbeni to Jomsom which is the headquarters of Mustang district. And stay overnight in Jomsom.

  • Day 11

    Day 11: Flight from Jomsom to Pokhara

    Since heavy wind blows in the afternoon at Jomsom, we will catch early morning flight. The air route continues at mid Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Mountains. In about 20 minutes, we will reach Pokhara. You will be dropped to the hotel. Spend the day on your own. Relax your day by visiting Phewa Lake and other places in Pokhara.

  • Day 12

    Day 12: Drive to Kathmandu from Pokhara

    We will return back to Kathmandu on this day. 7 hrs of drive will take us to Kathmandu from Pokhara. You will be dropped at the hotel. Spend the day on your own, shop at Thamel in the evening.

  • Day 13

    Day 13: Final departure

    Our representative will transfer you to the Airport three hours prior to the scheduled flight. We hope you will have a memorable time in Nepal with us and we wish to serve you again on your next tour to Nepal.
